Hi there,
DIY this: the running toilet
A toilet that keeps running wastes water around the clock, and the fix is usually a flapper, a part that costs a few dollars. Turn off the water at the valve behind the toilet, flush to empty the tank, unclip the old flapper, take it to the store to match it, and clip the new one in. Turn the water back on and check that it stops filling.
Not sure it's the flapper? Put a few drops of food coloring in the tank. If color shows in the bowl within 15 minutes without flushing, it is.
Hire for this: a breaker that keeps tripping
A breaker that trips again and again is telling you something: an overloaded circuit, a faulty appliance or a wiring problem. Unplug things on that circuit and reset it once. If it keeps tripping, call a licensed electrician. Before you call, write down what's on the circuit and when it trips. See Check a contractor before you hire.
Reader question
"A roofer knocked on my door after the storm and offered a free inspection. Should I let him?" Be careful. Storm-chasing scams are common. Thank him, then call a local licensed roofer you've found yourself. See Spot and avoid home repair scams.
Fix it smart,
