Before you call
- Write a one-page description of the job, with photos and measurements
- Decide on materials or quality level you want
- Know your rough budget
Ask every contractor
- A written, itemized quote: labor, materials, permits, cleanup
- Start date and how long it will take
- Warranty on work
- Who pulls the permit
- Payment schedule
Compare
Line the quotes up side by side. A much lower price may leave things out; a much higher one may include extras you don't need. Ask each to explain the differences.
